As Boston Bruins’ fans celebrate the first appearance of their team in the Stanley Cup Finals in 21 years, the TD Garden in Boston, MA, took over the top spot in TicketNews’ exclusive venues rankings for the week ending Sunday, June 5.
Up two this week, the Garden hosted the Vancouver Canucks for Game 3 of the series (won by Boston) and will host Game 4 and a possible Game 6 of the series. Secondary sales for these games were strong enough to take the series to No. 1 in TicketNews’ Top Sports Events rankings and No. 3 in this week’s Top Events rankings. The Canucks currently lead the series 2-1.
In concerts, the Garden has Glee Live performing tonight and Katy Perry arriving later this month. Sade and John Legend take the stage in July, and Britney Spears and Nicki Minaj take the stage in August. The TD Garden power scored a 3.79.
Home to the Canucks, Rogers Arena in Vancouver, BC, was the second hottest seller in venues this week. Power scoring a 3.10, the Arena hosted Games 1 and 2 of the Stanley Cup series against the Bruins, and will also host Game 5 and, if necessary, Game 7. Home game ticket sales took the series to No. 3 in this week’s Top Sports rankings. Musical artists performing at the Arena this summer include Katy Perry as well as Britney Spears and Nicki Minaj in July.
In at No. 3 this week, the American Airlines Arena in Miami, FL, performed well on strong sales for the Miami Heat’s NBA Finals home games against the Dallas Mavericks. The Arena hosted last week’s Game 1 and 2 and will host a possible Game 6 and 7 of the series, which the Heat currently lead 2-1. Secondary sales for Miami’s home games took the series to No. 4 in this week’s Top Sports rankings. In music, the Sade/Legend and Spears/Minaj tours arrive in July, and Taylor Swift appears in November. The American Airlines Arena finished the week with a power score of 2.55.
The Maverick’s home court, American Airlines Center in Dallas, TX, followed closely behind the home of the Heat this week, coming in at No. 4. Power scoring a 2.40, the Center hosted this weekend’s game three, will host tonight’s game four and later this week, game five of the series, which took No. 2 in this week’s Top Sports rankings behind strong secondary sales for Mavericks tickets. In music, July will see the Spears/Minaj and Sade/Legend tours play.
Down one this week in the face of stiff competition from playoff action, the Eugene O’Neill Theater in New York City finished the week at No. 5. The theater is Broadway’s home to the hit musical The Book of Mormon, which made it to No. 1 in this week’s Top Broadway rankings and No. 2 in the Top Theater rankings. The Eugene O’Neill Theater power scored a 2.28 this week.
Next, making a return to the top ten was Dallas Cowboys Stadium in Arlington, TX, in at No. 6 and power scoring a 1.82. The home field to the Dallas Cowboys will soon be hosting soccer, increasing in popularity this summer, with FC Barcelona meeting Club America in August in the week before the Cowboys take the field for pre-season play. In music, Taylor Swift performs at the Stadium in October.
Dropping one this week, the Gershwin Theatre landed at No. 7, power scoring a 1.49. The Gershwin’s long-running production of Wicked sold well enough this week to take No. 1 in the week’s Top Theater rankings and No. 2 in both the Top Broadway and Top Events categories.
Holding steady this week at No. 8 was the Colosseum at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas, currently housing Celine Dion in her three year run. Dion’s ticket sales for the week took the show to No. 6 in Top Concerts, a rare achievement for a one-venue production. The Colosseum at Caesars Palace power scored a 1.39 this week.
Back in the top ten for the first time since March was the New Meadowlands Stadium, coming in at No. 9 and power scoring a 1.33. The home to both the New York Giants and New York Jets, the Stadium also joins the soccer craze this summer by hosting the CONCACAF Gold Cup Quarterfinal on June 18, with USA Men’s Soccer in CONCACAF Gold Cup Play both this week and next week.
Also holding in place from last week was Yankee Stadium in New York, hitting at No. 10 and power scoring a 1.32. The Stadium is home to the New York Yankees, whose secondary sales this week took the team to No. 6 in Top Sports.
NHL and NBA playoff venues continued to populate the list for one more week, with some football venues beginning to make an appearance in the months leading up to pre-season. The Gershwin and the Eugene O’Neill were the only two theater venues in the top ten this week.
