The New England Patriots, also formally known as the Boston Patriots, are one of the 32 teams that currently comprise the National Football League. As one of the charter members of the American Football League, the Patriots joined the NFL when the two rival leagues merged in 1970. Over most of the first 30 years of the team's history in the NFL, they would find modest success going to the Super Bowl twice, once in 1985 and then again in 1996, but would ultimately be known for there losing seasons. But since the hiring of Bill Belichick in 2000, the Patriots have turned into the most successful franchise in the past decade.
The team has won three Super Bowls since 2001, each of which was anchored by Hall-of-Fame quarterback Tom Brady. The success of the team has helped make the Patriots one of the most profitable franchises in the NFL. They opened a new stadium in 2002 and have a huge waiting list for season tickets. The success has also led to some controversy among fans, as the team has consistently had among the most expensive tickets in the game. Despite fan unhappiness, the demand for tickets has not wavered and the Patriots are often among TicketNews's Top Sports Events.
Red Sox and Patriots ticket sales keep Boston in the mix
Whether for the preseason, regular season or postseason, tickets to see the four major pro sports teams in Boston remain red-hot.
Tickets to the New England Patriots’ AFC semifinal game Sunday, January 16 are officially sold out. A small amount of tickets went on sale via Ticketmaster.com last Friday, January 7, and were likely long gone even before the Patriots’ bitter rival, the New York Jets, set up a third meeting of the season between the teams by edging the Indianapolis Colts, 17-16, in a wild card game Saturday, January 8.

Ace Ticket signs travel package deal with the New England Patriots
The New England Patriots, which have long taken a distinctly anti-ticket broker stance in the past, this week signed a travel package deal with Boston-based secondary ticket broker Ace Ticket.
Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed, but the move marks a major shift for the team, which had been embroiled in a lawsuit against ticket resale marketplace StubHub for three years, before the two finally settled the case in the summer of 2009.

New England Patriots tickets can remain on StubHub after two sides end legal dispute
Apparently realizing the two were at a legal stalemate, the New England Patriots and secondary ticket company Stubhub have settled their three-year-old dispute over Patriots tickets being scalped on the resale giant.
Terms of the settlement were not disclosed, but essentially both sides will continue with their positions of brokers and fans listing Patriots tickets on the Web site, and the Patriots stressing that it prohibits the resale of tickets to the team's home games. The Patriots sued StubHub to have the tickets removed, and the team is reportedly continuing separate lawsuits against individuals who are reselling tickets.
StubHub and the New England Patriots continue to wrangle over ticket resales
The legal maneuvering continues in the three-year-old lawsuit by the New England Patriots against StubHub, as the secondary ticketing company was reportedly dealt a blow recently to one of its arguments.
StubHub unsuccessfully tried to argue that it should not be held responsible for the actions of its users under Section 230 of the landmark Communications Decency Act. The company was seeking a partial summary judgment that would have gone a long way to thwarting the Patriots' efforts to paint the secondary ticket company as partly liable for users buying and selling the teams' tickets. StubHub claims it does not sell tickets itself, the company simply created a forum for others to buy or sell tickets.
New England Patriots asked TicketsNow to take down tickets
The New England Patriots, in an attempt to help preserve its control over the resale of its tickets, requested that TicketsNow remove the tickets from the company's exchange, the team told TicketNews.
The admission that the team was behind the move comes as little surprise because the Patriots have taken a hard line over the resale of it tickets, including suing StubHub for listing tickets on its exchange. But, the move shows just how much influence the team has in forcing a ticket exchange to bend to its will, especially considering the popularity of the team among brokers and fans and the lucrative nature of its tickets on the secondary market.
New England Patriots tickets mysteriously removed from TicketsNow
Without offering a reason why, TicketsNow recently removed tickets to home games of the New England Patriots from its marketplace. In addition, the Illinois-based ticket company, the nation's second-largest secondary ticketer according to TicketNews's exclusive industry rankings, also mysteriously took down tickets to events in the Canadian Provinces of Alberta and Manitoba.
The moves quietly became effective sometime just after the first of the month, and according to the company the removals are apparently for the foreseeable future. While TicketsNow did not give a reason for taking down the Patriots tickets, industry speculation is centering on parent company Ticketmaster influencing the decision. Ticketmaster is the Patriots's official ticket company, and the team has taken a hard line against the resale market.
With Tom Brady out, Patriots ticket sales could suffer
When the New England Patriots took the field Sunday, Tom Brady was set to take the snaps for the Super Bowl contender. At the 7:38 mark of the first quarter it was Matt Cassell taking the snaps for a team whose season is now uncertain.
Brady was hit on the left knee by Kansas City Chiefs safety Bernard Pollard, tearing his ACL, an injury that will keep him out for the rest of the year. In the days that followed, the implications of the loss were evident both on and off the field. While the team will look to recover on the field, it may be a little more difficult for the secondary ticket market.
StubHub updates customer list in legal fight with NFL's New England Patriots
Having "exhausted" all of its appeals, StubHub this month has begun updating the customer information it is providing the New England Patriots in the legal battle the two have waged for two years.
StubHub President Chris Tsakalakis, in a recent email to ticket brokers, customers and others, explains that the company is being ordered by the court to update the records.
