Ozzfest is a hard rock and heavy metal music festival tour that has taken place annually since 1996. It's tough not to recognize how the festival tour got its name, as it was founded by heavy metal legend Ozzy Osbourne and his wife Sharon. After the ever-popular music festival Lollapalooza refused to let Ozzy perform, Osbourne decided to create a festival of his own which consequently grew in popularity.
From 1996 through 2006, Ozzfest attracted many of the top heavy metal and hard rock bands, which drew in large crowds to venues year after year. Many of the concerts were headlined by Ozzy and his band Black Sabbath. In 2007, it was decided that the festival tour would have all tickets free of charge to those who go to the Ozzfest Web site or buy Osbourne's newest album. Due to incredibly high demand, issues among fans attempting to redeem their tickets became a problem. Also, some fans that purchased from secondary market were turned away. Ozzfest returned as a single day event in 2008, and has been cancelled for 2009.
Ozzfest 2010 tours six U.S. markets with co-headliners Ozzy Osbourne, Mötley Crüe
The triumphant return of Ozzy Osbourne's eponymous summer music festival, Ozzfest, is official. The veteran rocker and self-declared Prince of Darkness went on hiatus from the annual outing in 2009, but he'll be back on the road in late summer with six festival dates.
Tour stops have been confirmed from coast to coast, beginning with an August 14 event at San Manuel Amphitheater in Devore, CA, and continuing through an August 24 show at the Comcast Center in Mansfield, MA. Each market on the itinerary will feature two stages and performances by 13 bands.
Ozzfest on hold for 2009 with new Ozzy album in the works
The long-running heavy metal and hard rock tour Ozzfest has been put on the back burner for 2009, as festival icon Ozzy Osbourne heads back to the studio to record a follow-up to 2007's "Black Rain." Ozzfest is expected to return in 2010.
According to a festival statement, Osbourne "will not be touring until he has a new album in stores" and so decided to nix his namesake festival this year, as well. The rocker usually features prominently on the festival's lineup, either headlining or performing a set on the main stage.
One-day Ozzfest grosses $3.5 million
The one-day Ozzfest on three stages at the Pizza Hut Park in Dallas, TX, on August 9 was deemed a success by its promoter AEG Live. With close to 30,000 metal bashers in attendance and a gross of nearly $3.5 million, plans are underway to bring the festival, which started as a roving multi-city tour in 1996, back to Dallas for two days next summer. Last year's tour's unique feature was that it was a free event.
The 13-hour spectacle featured Metallica and Ozzy Osbourne, the latter's only U.S. concert appearance this year. Before the sun went down, the day had an emotional moment when Hell Yeah’s set transitioned into a one-time only all-star tribute to fallen Pantera guitarist and Texas native “Dimebag” Darrell Abbott.

Tickets to see the Jonas Brothers, and tickets for Ozzfest, are on sale throughout the weekend ending June 2, as compiled by TicketNews.
The popular teen act the Jonas Brothers have an additional tour date on sale this weekend, as their stop at Anaheim, CA’s Honda Center hits the onsales list tomorrow morning, May 31. Saturday also offers two shows from fellow teen idol and High School Musical superstar Vanessa Hudgens, who has concerts in Rockford, IL and Syracuse, NY on sale. The multiple city tour will feature recording artists such as The Barenaked Ladies, They Might be Giants, and appearances by Disney star Raven-Symone.
Ozzy Likely to Headline 2008 Ozzfest
Forget those rumors that Ozzfest will have to do without Ozzy Osbourne in the future, Billboard reports. The Prince of Darkness told reporters during a teleconference this week that he'll be at the top of the 2008 Ozzfest bill -- "as far as I know."
Marketing Wizardry? Ozzfest Creates Buzz With Free Tickets
Tour Costly for Unknown Bands, but it's Paying Off
News of the free-ticket deal hit the industry like a mosh pit sucker punch. Some critics said it was a desperate move intended to keep the tour going without paying top bands top money. In past years, Ozzy has sparked sellouts by reuniting with Black Sabbath or sharing the main stage with Judas Priest, Iron Maiden, Marilyn Manson and System of a Down. Meanwhile, insiders say side-stage acts have had to pay as much as $75,000 to be on the tour, money written off by labels as a promotional expense. . .
Two Deaths Occur at Ozzfest
Drugs and Alcohol Considered Possible Catalysts
WCBS-TV in New York is reporting that New Jersey police are investigating two deaths involving concert-goers who attended Thursday's Ozzfest concert at the PNC Bank Arts Center in Holmdel.
Patrick Norris, 24, of Coram, and 27-year-old Raymond Guarino, of Forked River, were identified as the two victims, whose deaths are believed to be drug and alcohol related, according to WCBS. Paramedics were initially able to resuscitate Guarido after he fell unconscious, but he later died at a local hospital.
Police said both had passed out during the show.
"From what I heard it was a combination of drugs, alcohol, and caffeine ... in the one death. I'm not aware of the second one that happened late last night," Joe Orlando, a spokesman for the New Jersey Turnpike Authority, told WCBS. The Turnpike authority owns the land the venue sits on.
Live Nation Distributes 428,000 Free Ozzfest Tickets; Some Fans Experience Delays
By Alfred Branch, Jr.
In the four days since tickets were released, Live Nation gave away more than 428,000 tickets to this year’s Ozzfest, selling out all 24 dates, according to Live Nation officials.
The give away was “the largest number of free tickets distributed in the United States in the history of the concert business,” with more than 228,000 tickets being snapped up on Tuesday alone. This summer marks the tour’s 12th anniversary, and besides headliner Ozzy Osbourne other acts include Lamb of God, Static X, Lordi and Hatebreed.
“Ozzy is the first to take an entire tour and make it free to his fans and the fans of OZZFEST,” Sharon Osbourne, the tour’s creator and organizer, said in a prepared statement. “More than 428,000 tickets were distributed free to fans. How amazing is that?” .
Despite the overall success of the historic give away, the promotion was not without a few snags. According to a cross section of fans who wrote into blogs on the concert tour’s website, server delays left some fans frustrated because they were not able to secure tickets. Officials did not say how many fans logged into LiveNation.com during the four days, but the company believes it delivered tickets to the maximum number of fans without any serious problems. . .
Ozzfest Releases Free Ticket Code Redemption Schedule
On February 1, 2007, the official Ozzfest website stated that on Tuesday, February 6, 2007 a "major announcement" concerning the 2007 Ozzfest would be made by Ozzy and Sharon Osbourne at 11:00 a.m. PT at a Hotel in Century City, California. This event was going to be closed to the public but details would be made available as soon as they were known.
On February 7th, it was announced to the public that Ozzfest 2007 was going to be completely free of charge, calling this summer’s Ozzfest "free fest." The tour will begin in Los Angeles, the other Ozzfest tour cities as of now are San Diego, San Francisco, Seattle, Denver, Albuquerque, Phoenix, Dallas, San Antonio, Kansas City, St Louis, Chicago, Indianapolis, Columbus, Detroit, Pittsburgh, New York, Boston, Philadelphia, Hartford, Charlotte, Atlanta, West Palm Beach, and Nashville.
"For the last few years," said Sharon, "ticket prices have steadily climbed as artists demand more and more money for summer tours. We certainly want everybody to make money, however we also want the kids to be able to afford to come out and have an incredible experience. If we continued with the traditional touring festival model, we would have no choice but to raise ticket prices again this year."

Is Ozzfest Actually a Ripoff?

It's unofficially billed as "Freefest" and its free ticket distribution system is up and running, but Ozzfest will still come at a price - at least if you want the VIP treatment. Some think it's a total publicity stunt. Ozzfest fan Robin Stiles says "They are giving away the cheap as dirt lawn seats that they would have probably discounted for $9 in July anyways, but bumping up the parking and other fees".
Packages for premium seats and access recently were announced at the Ozzfest Web site, starting at $310 per person plus services charges. Packages include a top tier "platinum" level available to 10 people per show. . .
