Ozzfest is a hard rock and heavy metal music festival tour that has taken place annually since 1996. It’s tough not to recognize how the festival tour got its name, as it was founded by heavy metal legend Ozzy Osbourne and his wife Sharon. After the ever-popular music festival Lollapalooza refused to let Ozzy perform, Osbourne decided to create a festival of his own which consequently grew in popularity.
From 1996 through 2006, Ozzfest attracted many of the top heavy metal and hard rock bands, which drew in large crowds to venues year after year. Many of the concerts were headlined by Ozzy and his band Black Sabbath. In 2007, it was decided that the festival tour would have all tickets free of charge to those who go to the Ozzfest Web site or buy Osbourne’s newest album. Due to incredibly high demand, issues among fans attempting to redeem their tickets became a problem. Also, some fans that purchased from secondary market were turned away. Ozzfest returned as a single day event in 2008, and has been cancelled for 2009.
