Baroque indie rockers The Decemberists have announced the first round of dates for their spring A Short Fazed Hovel Tour. The 16-city U.S. touring picks up May 19 at the Hollywood Palladium in Hollywood, CA, and wraps its first leg with a four-day run at Bonnaroo Music & Arts Festival on June 11-14 in Manchester, TN.
Tour highlights include a May 26 concert at Fillmore Auditorium in Denver, CO, a May 31 show at The Pageant in St. Louis, MO, a June 5 gig at The National in Richmond, VA, and a June 10 gig at Radio City Music Hall in New York, NY. Public onsales begin February 13, and presales for the outing are already underway.
The Decemberists will be on the road promoting their upcoming March 24 release “The Hazards of Love,” a concept album about the “potential pitfalls of romance,” according to a statement from the band. The new record will be unveiled for the first time, from start to finish, during a live performance at the South By Southwest Music Festival (SXSW) on March 18 at Austin Music Hall in Austin, TX.
The new record will also be performed in its entirety during the first set of each concert on the spring tour, with the second set of the night devoted to The Decemberists’ older material. Vocalists Becky Stark and Shara Worden will appear throughout the trek, playing the parts of “Hazard’s” main female characters.
“Hazards of Love” will be the fifth studio album for The Decemberists. Led by vocalist and principal songwriter Colin Meloy, the band mixes often-literary content with lush folk-rock instrumentation.
