After completing a tour of North America later this winter, hard-touring rock group Wilco will hit the road for a second leg of dates in the spring.

The recently announced extension will take the band to the East Coast for an additional 16 performances. Wilco’s new itinerary opens with a March 22 show at The Fillmore in Miami Beach, FL, and end April 11 at Carnegie Music Hall in Pittsburgh, PA.

Wilco had previously announced a 17-date trek that will take the band down the West Coast and across Canada this winter. The 2010 itinerary launches February 7 at the Adams Center in Missoula, MT, with shows booked through March 3 at the Halifax Forum Arena in Halifax, NS.

A supporting act has not been named for the East Coast leg of the tour, which is being billed as “An Evening with Wilco.” However, Chicago-based band Califone and one-man act Bahamas will trade opening duties throughout Wilco’s concerts on the West Coast and in Canada.

TFL and ATBS for ticketing professionals

Tickets are already on sale for the first leg of the jaunt. Public onsales for the second run will begin Friday, February 8, in select markets. Onsales for all dates of the current tour routing will be open within the next two weeks.

Wilco released its seventh studio album, appropriately titled “Wilco (The Album),” in June 2009. The effort peaked at No. 4 on the Billboard 200 and earned accolades on many publications’ year-end “Best of” lists.

Though the group’s latest material is still fresh, Wilco is reportedly heading back to the studio. According to Billboard sources, frontman Jeff Tweedy and his musical troupe have started work on a new slate of songs and will hit their Chicago recording studio sometime this month.
