Broadway Ticket Sales Report Week ending May 6th, 2007

Broadway was just a little bit anemic this past week; total ticket sales were $19,548,481, down $990,071 from the previous week. Still packing them in though, were: “Wicked” $1,384,931 at 100% capacity; “Jersey Boys” $1,162,081 at 100%; “The Lion King” $1,121,635 at 96%; “Mary Poppins” $1,011,129 at about 90%; and “Mamma Mia” $905,234 at almost 99% capacity. The Tony award nominations will be announced May 15 and should favorably impact some productions.

Twenty-seven productions saw a drop in sales: the biggest loss between last week and the previous week was endured by “Spamalot,” dropping $103,932. Coming in second was “Les Miserables,” dropping by $103,286.

The saga of “The Pirate Queen” continues: it posted ticket sales of $628,680, a loss of $27,399 over the previous week’s report. . . .

“Journey’s End” continues to limp along, only filling about 26% of the theatre’s capacity. Its ticket sales were $111,804 this past week, down $22,182 from the previous reporting period.

“The Coast of Utopia” is headed towards its closing on May 13 and posted one of its highest grosses this past week of $564,505. The numbers for “The Coast of Utopia” were combined: “Part 1 – Voyage,” two performances; “Part 2 – Shipwreck,” three performances; and “Part 3 – Salvage,” two performances in this reporting week.

OPENINGS & CLOSINGS:
“Coram Boy” previewed April 16th and opened May 2nd at the Imperial. This past week it grossed $214,051.

“Lovemusik” previewed April 12th and opened May 3 at the Biltmore Theatre. It grossed $211,464 in its first week.

“Deuce” began previews April 11th and opened May 6th at the Music Box Theatre. It grossed $397,045.

The highest ticket price once again was $351.50 for “Jersey Boys.”
