Indie New York based synth-pop band The Magnetic Fields are planning a short, two-month tour in February and March of 2008, the first time the band has hit the road since 2004.

Kicking off Feb. 11 in Northampton, MA, the group will perform multiple nights in seven cities with a concluding three night stand, March 14-16, with two sets per night at Chicago’s Old Town School of Folk Music. The group will be supporting their eighth album, “Distortion,” due Jan. 15 on Nonesuch Records.

The Magnetic Fields is led by singer/songwriter Stephin Merritt and also features percussionist/pianist Claudia Gonson, cellist Sam Davol and guitarist/banjo player John Woo.
