Richie Havens sets extensive tour
Folk singer/songwriter Richie Havens has an extensive set of dates booked through February 2009 with more to be added. His next official concert is May 17 in Roseburg, OR. However, on May 14, he will perform his chestnut “Freedom” at the opening ceremonies of the prestigious 61st annual Cannes International Film Festival in Cannes, France.
This performance takes place on the heels of the successful February 2008 European release of his latest album, “Nobody Left to Clown,” which is his 27th album. There has been no U.S. release yet; Derek Trucksand Harry Manx guest on the album.
Havens first emerged from New York City‘s Greenwich Village folk scene in the early 60’s. In 1969, he inspired and electrified an audience of over half a million people with his legendary three hour opening performance at Woodstock, which included a spontaneous performance of “Freedom” to kill time for the next performer — thus the repetition of the word “freedom forever.”
