Rock band The Decemberists are the latest musicians to throw their support behind Democratic presidential candidate Sen. Barack Obama. The group is scheduled to perform today, May 18, at a rally with Obama in the quintet’s hometown of Portland, OR.

The rally will take place at The Bowl in Waterfront Park. Doors will open at 12:30 p.m. PST. The Decemberists’s set will be followed by a speech from Obama.

In recent months, several musicians have voiced their support for the Illinois Senator, including Bruce Springsteen, Dave Matthews and the surviving members of the Grateful Dead. The Decemberists, former indie darlings, made their major label debut in 2006 with the album “The Crane Wife.”

The rally is free and open to the public. Tickets are not required but an RSVP is strongly encouraged, because admission is on a first-come, first-served basis. For additional information or to RSVP, visit the webpage set up for the event.
