Jay Brannan will kick off his first national tour on July 11 in Boston, MA and wind it down on July 28 in Chicago, IL for a total of 10 concerts. He then goes to the United Kingdom for seven shows starting on August 23 in Nottingham and concluding on August 31 in Southampton.
Brannan’s debut album “goddamned” is due out July 1 (digital) /July 15 (cd). It was recorded at Los Angeles’ famed Village Recording Studios with producer Will Golden (Meiko). Brannan has decided to release the album through his own Great Depression Records, despite major label courting.
Brannan first turned heads and gained international attention with his performance in John Cameron Mitchell’s critically acclaimed film “Shortbus.” In addition to receiving praise for his acting talent, he began to gain notice for his song “Soda Shop” performed in the film. It remains the #1 most downloaded track from the soundtrack.
He has operated an enviable online campaign from his studio apartment, premiering bedroom versions of his new songs on MySpace, YouTube and Facebook. Over 3 million people have watched the clips, shot entirely from his laptop. Online devotion has translated to a live draw with worldwide sellouts, including Los Angeles, London, Paris, Cape Town, Tel Aviv, Toronto, Vancouver and New York City. An EP entitled “Unmastered” has sold over 30,000 tracks through iTunes and a 1,000 piece run of this EP, each with a different Polaroid cover, sold out in a day.
