Disney’s “High School Musical 3: Senior Year” remained at the head of its class despite slow sales overall due to the Halloween holiday. Overall, ticket sales were down 39 percent from last weekend and 41 percent from the same weekend last year. “HSM3” was able to remain number one at the U.S. box office, beating out scary competition from “Saw V” and the new Kevin Smith movie “Zack And Miri Make A Porno”, according to studio estimates from box office tracking firm Nielsen EDI.

“HSM3” earned $15 million this weekend, bringing its total to $61.8 million. “Zach and Miri Make a Porno” took second place with a $10.7 million estimate; the raunchy comedy stars Seth Rogen and Elizabeth Banks as down and outers who try to change their luck by making porn. The latest in the “Saw” franchise, “Saw V” dropped to number three this weekend with an estimated $10.1 million score. “The Changeling”, starring Angelina Jolie and directed by Clint Eastwood slotted the four spot with just under $10 million after it was expanded nationwide. “The Haunting Of Molly Hartley” hit number five with $6 million in receipts.

The only film that thrived at the box office was the one that didn’t compete with Halloween. The latest installment of the James Bond series, “Quantum of Solace”, did record-breaking numbers overseas.

The film grossed $38.6 million this weekend in three countries: England, France and Sweden. The film debuted to $25.3 million in England, the biggest debut ever in the U.K. The film opens nationwide Nov. 14.
