Acclaimed singer Patti LaBelle is going back to her roots this winter as she reunites with Nona Hendryx and Sarah Dash, her partners in the 1970s R&B/soul group Labelle. The upcoming reunion tour is slated to kick off with an opening concert on December 19 at Apollo Theater in New York, NY.

The group’s reunion has eight confirmed shows on the books in addition to LaBelle’s solo performances, according to the singer’s official fan club Web site. Highlights include a January 10 concert at Chicago Theatre in Chicago, IL, and a January 29 performance at the Nokia Theatre at LA Live in Los Angeles, CA.

The trio will be supporting the October 2008 release “Back to Now,” Labelle’s first original album in more than 30 years. Produced by acclaimed musician Wyclef Jean, the record is a follow-up to 1976’s “Chameleon.”

“You don’t want to half-step something this important” de facto frontwoman LaBelle said in a recent interview with The Toronto Star, explaining the delay between albums. “We still talked with one another through the years and we never officially had a farewell tour or anything like that. My solo career took off, so it was about finding the right time and place.”

Labelle released its eponymous debut in 1971 and made a name for itself as a group for blending elements of R&B, soul, disco, funk and glam rock. The group is probably best known for its critically acclaimed 1974 release “Nightbirds,” which featured the hit single “Lady Marmalade.” In 2003, Rolling Stone listed the album at No. 272 for the cover story “The 500 Greatest Albums of All Time.”
