TicketNews’s Top Weekly Events Rankings are in for the week ending January 11 and once again Britney Spears has the best-selling concert and ranks number five (power score 2.28) in the Top Combined Events Rankings. The musical Wicked kept its stranglehold on the top spot overall, but were followed closely by tickets to the NFC Championship Game which takes place next week in Arizona and tickets to the NFC Divisional Playoff Game between the New York Giants and Philadelphia Eagles which took place yesterday.
Concerts ranked highly overall, with the Eagles ranking closely behind Britney with a 2.25 power score, while AC/DC leaped to number eight and a 1.99 power score. Elton John & Billy Joel came in at number nine (1.72) and Nickelback at number ten, power score 1.62.
The Top Concert Events rankings show divas Céline Dion and Bette Midler are still popular with ticket buyers—they rank at numbers six and seven, respectively. Lil’ Wayne manages to edge ahead of Fleetwood Mac for the number eight spot (2.35). Fleetwood Mac’s power score of 2.27 is better than Metallica’s 2.18, which brings the band to the number ten position.
The upcoming NFC Championship Game: Arizona Cardinals has a big lead over other sports events in the sports rankings with an 11.69 power score. Monster Jam Trucks tickets continue to sell well, and the event comes in at number three in these rankings, power score 4.89. Three NBA teams make these sports rankings: Los Angeles Lakers (number four, 3.33), New York Knicks (number nine, 2.20), and Boston Celtics (number ten, 1.88). Ticket sales for the BCS National Championship Bowl propel that event to number five (3.06); the AMA Supercross comes in at number eight with a 2.78 power score.
Wicked is still the bestselling show in both the theater and Broadway rankings. In the Top Theater Events rankings, Jersey Boys (number two, 11.04) beat South Pacific (number thee, 6.54). Billy Elliot (5.99) and Lion King (5.63) are numbers four and five. Dirty Dancing tickets sold well enough for the number seven spot (2.04), ahead of Cirque du Soleil: Kooza (number eight, 1.55) and West Side Story (number ten, 1.12).
In the Broadway rankings, Mamma Mia! is number six with a 2.43 power score and Phantom of the Opera is number seven, power score 2.40. New to the rankings, You’re Welcome America: A Final Night with George W Bush comes in at number eight with a 2.28 power score. Shrek makes number ten with a 2.17 power score.
Bette Midler is number one in the Vegas rankings with a 43.92 power score and Cher is number two with 19.50 power score. Number three belongs to Elton John: The Red Piano (10.39). Three Cirque du Soleil shows make the Vegas rankings: Cirque du Soleil: “O” (number four, 6.13), Cirque du Soleil: The Beatles: LOVE (number seven, 2.41) and Cirque du Soleil: Zumanity (number nine, 1.87). Criss Angel: Believe jumps the chart to number five, power score 3.24. Barry Manilow closes the Vegas top ten with a 1.28 power score.
