Following a March 20 performance at South By Southwest (SXSW) in Austin, TX, hip-hop starlet Lady Sovereign will launch into a month-long tour of North America. The 20-city outing picks up May 1 at Lee’s Palace in Toronto, ON, and wraps May 28 at the House of Blues in San Diego, CA.

Featured stops in the U.S. are May 4 at HighLine Ballroom in New York, NY; May 9 at 9:30 Club in Washington, DC; May 14 at Metro / Smart Bar in Chicago, IL; May 21 at Crocodile Café in Seattle, WA; and May 26 at El Rey Theatre in Los Angeles, CA. Additional Canadian gigs are booked for May 2 at Club Soda in Montreal, QC, and May 22 at Richard’s on Richards Cabaret in Vancouver, BC.

Hailing from London, England, Lady Sovereign is touring the States to promote her forthcoming sophomore album, “Jigsaw,” which is scheduled for release on April 6. The 23-year-old said in a statement that the record’s name fits because it meshes different genres of music and features the performing singing instead of rapping on some songs.

“I’m not the best singer in the world but you listen to it and you definitely feel it, you know,” the recording artist said in an interview with TheQuietus.com. “Rapping is second nature to me. I feel different when I sing. I feel lighter, it’s fun.”

Lady Sovereign debuted in 2006 with the release “Public Warning.” The album, which received mixed reviews from critics, faired well commercially in the U.S. The effort peaked at No. 48 on the Billboard 200 and hit No. 12 on the rap albums chart.
