Rapper Lil Wayne has cancelled two concerts in Canada on August 17 at the GM Place in Vancouver, BC, and August 18 in Edmonton, AB.
Wayne was the headliner in the tour package dubbed the Young Money Presents: America’s Most Wanted Music Festival, along with hip-hoppers Young Jeezy, Soulja Boy, Tell ‘Em and Drake.
However, there is no definitive word as to the cause of the cancellations as promoter Live Nation issued a statement simply saying the concert had been cancelled “due to circumstances beyond Live Nation’s control…” Meanwhile The Canadian Press said the cancellation was “reportedly due to an undisclosed illness.”
Whatever the reason, refunds are available at the point of purchase; credit card holders will be automatically refunded. The next scheduled concert is set for August 20 at Fiddler’s Green Amphitheatre in Englewood, CO.
This is the second time Lil Wayne has cancelled shows in Canada. In June 2008, the rapper cancelled a show in Toronto “due to unknown circumstances.” In the United States, a spree of 2008-2009 concert cancellations in Rochester, NY, landed the artist in hot water with a promoter who sued him for $1.3 million.
