The live recreation of Van Morrison‘s seminal album “Astral Weeks” will continue at least through fall 2009 with eight more North American performances.
The latest leg of dates for the veteran musician pick up September 25 at The Joint in Las Vegas, NV, and end October 28 at MGM Grand at Foxwoods in Mashantucket, CT. Other key performances include a September 30 show at Massey Hall in Toronto, ON, and an October 25 event at the WaMu Theater at Madison Square Garden in New York, NY.
Tickets for most of the fall concerts are already for sale on Ticketmaster. Public onsales for his October 24 concert in Waterbury, CT, are being handled directly through the Palace Theater.
Face values for most tickets vary depending on the venue and seating level. Mezzanine and balcony seats are set around $75 to $100 for most shows, with some higher or lower, and stage vicinity seats priced up to approximately $350.
Morrison first gave his 1968 album the live, cover-to-cover treatment for a pair of special performances on November 7-8 at Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles, CA. He followed those high-demand shows with additional U.S. and UK gigs in spring 2009, as well as four recent early August concerts in the Northeast U.S.
The “Astral Weeks” phenomenon has already run on much longer than Morrison originally expected it to. At the time he was planning his first full-album performances in November 2008, the musician told Rolling Stone, “I am doing these shows to get the live recordings with the full orchestration. I doubt there will be any more ‘Astral Weeks’ shows after this one.”
