As the fall season of shows gets up and running, so do the box office numbers. This week the gross ticket sales are reported at $16,471,171, nearly $2 million more than last week’s $14,602,870.

The five new productions that launched previews this past week have a lot to do with the improved numbers. They are “Time Stands Still” at the Cort with Opening Night scheduled for October 7; “A Life in the Theatre” at the Schoenfeld, Oct. 12; “Bloody Bloody Andrew Jackson” at the Jacobs, Oct. 12; “La Bete” at the Music Box, Oct. 14; and “Lombardi” at the Circle in the Square, Oct. 21.

Looking at the season to date figures, currently the gross is $342,761,523 compared to last season at the same point of $340,665,942.

In the million-dollar circle this past week were “Wicked” at the Gershwin, “The Lion King” at the Minskoff, “Jersey Boys” at the August Wilson and “Billy Elliot” at the Imperial. The most significant change in gross was by “Memphis” at the Shubert, with an increase of $87,916 over the previous week. Looking at percentages, “Brief Encounter” at Studio 54 increased its ticket sales by 22 percent followed by “Next to Normal” at the Booth, up 11.6 percent from the previous reporting period. “Memphis” reported the largest dollar increase from one week to the next, $87,916. Missing the mark was “Million Dollar Quartet” at the Nederlander, losing $17,819 in sales.

Overall, attendance is close to 77 percent this past week compared to just fewer than 75 percent the previous reporting period.

Once again, the only production to achieve 95 percent or better of its Gross Gross Potential was “Wicked” at 95.4 percent. There was no change in Top Ticket status, still held by “Jersey Boys” at $350. The Best Buy as suggested by the Average Paid Admission was “Brief Encounter” at $33.
