Box office returns this week bottomed out as they historically do this time of year, with ticket sales reporting an anemic $14,896,890. The same week last season reported $17,589,760. Looking at ticket sales of the previous reporting period ending January 9 of $20,750,906, Broadway saw a drop of $5,854,016.

Three shows reported box office receipts in excess of $1 million including “Wicked” at the Gershwin with $1,540,868, “The Lion King” at the Minskoff with $1,334,354 and “Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark” at the Foxwoods with $1,258,330.

The only show coming even close to achieving its Gross Gross Potential was “Wicked” at 98.36 percent. “Next to Normal” came in a distant second at 89.73 percent and closed January 16.

Four shows posted tickets with face values at or exceeding $300, including one at $350 and one at $352 while the best bargain-priced average ticket was $50.43 for “The Importance of Being Earnest” at the American Airlines Theatre, which opened January 13.

TFL and ATBS for ticketing professionals

“Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark” announced yet another delay of its opening night, which is now scheduled for March 15.

Three shows are currently on hiatus including “The Merchant of Venice,” which will resume performances on February 1. “Rock of Ages” has been running at the Atkinson Theatre, but will reopen March 24 at the Helen Hayes. “Rain: A Tribute to the Beatles on Broadway” is also on hiatus and will resume performances February 8 at the Brooks Atkinson.
