After a couple consecutive weeks of declining ticket sales, Broadway box offices saw an uptick with gross ticket sales at a reported $23,029,210. That total is up $903,231 from the previous reporting period’s total of $22,465,355. Ticket sales have reached $1,031,912,672 for the season overall, a 3.5 percent increase over the total at this point of the 2010 season.

There are 36 productions on Broadway with four reporting box office receipts in excess of $1 million. They are “Wicked” at the Gershwin once again in the top spot at $1,606,974, “The Lion King” at the Minskoff, $1,562,498, “The Book of Mormon” at the Eugene O’Neill, $1,130,382 and “Jersey Boys” at the August Wilson, $1,061,397. “Lombardi” at the Circle in Square, $210,651, once again reported the lowest return at the box office although improved over the previous week.

Of the 13 plays on Broadway, “War Horse” at the Beaumont continues to lead ticket sales at $836,768 followed again by “The Motherf***** With the Hat” at the Broadway at $689,860.

Attendance reported for the week overall improved, reporting 80.53 percent. Ten shows reported 95 percent or more capacity with two of those reporting 100 percent or better: the musical “The Book of Mormon,” again at 102.44 percent, with “War Horse” at 100 percent. “Arcadia” at the Barrymore and “Million Dollar Quartet” tied for the lowest percentage of capacity at 46 percent.

Three shows achieved 95 percent or better Gross Gross Potential with “The Book of Mormon” reporting 114.68 percent, “Wicked” reporting 102.58 percent and “The Lion King” 102.35 percent. “The People in the Picture” at Studio 54 reported the lowest figure at 27.15 percent.

Five shows posted tickets with face values at or exceeding $300, including “Jersey Boys” at $350. “Wonderland” at the Marquis offered the best bargain-priced average ticket in its closing week at $42.53.

Spider-Man: Turn off the Dark” resumed previews May 12 and is set to open at the Foxwoods June 14.

The Outer Critics Circle announced the winners of their coveted awards this week. According to the New York Theatre Guide, “The Book of Mormon” won the Award for Outstanding New Broadway Musical as well as awards three other categories. The Award for Outstanding Revival of a Musical (Broadway or Off-Broadway) was awarded to “Anything Goes”, also winning in three other categories. Despite receiving nine nominations, “Sister Act” was unable to capture any awards.
