The NFC Conference Championship Game between the San Francisco 49ers and New York Giants edged out some top musical acts in TicketNews’ exclusive events rankings for the week ending Sunday, January 22.
49ers tickets for this weekend’s NFC Championship Game made it into the top ten for the second straight week, this week hitting at No. 1 on the secondary market. The Giants ultimately came on top of the game, kicking a last-second field goal in overtime. The AFC Championship did not fare quite as well in the rankings, finishing at No. 16. The New England Patriots beat the Baltimore Ravens 23-20 after Ravens kicker Bill Cundiff missed a game-tying 32-yard field goal with just seconds remaining.
The Patriots and Giants will meet in Super Bowl XLVI on February 5 at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis. Early ticket sales for this rematch of Super Bowl XLII brought the game to No. 6 in this week’s rankings.
Rock musicians took over nearly half of the ten slots this week, with Nickelback’s joint tour with Bush, Seether and My Darkest Days the highest ranking at No. 3. The new tour from iconic rockers Van Halen, which features the return of lead vocalist David Lee Roth, is still riding a strong sales wave finishing at No. 4 this week. The band is preparing for a February 18 tour launch in Louisville, KY.
Other rock acts selling well on the secondary market this week included Elton John, in at No. 7, and Coldplay, on their North American tour in support of “Mylo Xyloto”, in at No. 10.
TicketNews Exclusive Rankings and Power Scores are based on ticket sales from the TicketNetwork Exchange™. Two factors are used to calculate a power score: total ticket sales from the given event and total ticket sales within the category. Since the sum of all events’ power scores equals 100 in any given category, an individual event’s Power Score represents its category-specific significance. Top Event Power Scores should only be used to compare events within a particular category, and not across categories.
