Popular trade publication Pollstar is just about one week away from launching its third annual Pollstar Live! conference.
This year’s event takes place February 1-3 at the JW Marriott Hotel in Los Angeles, CA, and will provide industry leaders with a place to discuss challenges faced in the concert industry. The conference will conclude with the 23rd Annual Pollstar Awards at Club Nokia.
The event will focus on promoting face-to-face discussion to improve business practices and the fan experience, and topics will include ticket pricing and touring options for artists. A full schedule of events is available on the Pollstar Live! Web site.
At the center of the February 2 schedule is the collaborative keynote speech, “Moneyball: The Art of Winning an Unfair Game,” presented by journalist/author Michael Lewis and Oakland A’s general manager Billy Beane. The discussion will focus new ways to evaluate talent and will be moderated by industry commentator Bob Lefsetz.
Many of the conference’s attendees are key players from major companies in the live music industry. This provides attendees with a unique opportunity to meet and hold discussions with delegates from all levels of the industry.
“It is the well-rounded picture, covering the venue, artist, manager, promoter, and agent perspectives,” said Shari Rice, conference director and vice president of operations for Pollstar, in a recent e-mail to TicketNews.
According to Rice, the number of registrants last year was over 1,000 and they are currently on pace to exceed that number. She added, “It is one of the best social networking events in existence.”
Registration for Pollstar Live! costs $699 through January 27. The rate increases to $799 for those registering from January 28 through the start of the event. Additional tickets for the Awards Party are available for $150 per person.
Registration includes admission to the opening reception, all panel sessions, a buffet lunch, and the Annual Pollstar Awards.
