This year, Ticket Summit will host a series of Workshops for Entrepreneurs as part of its conference schedule. These workshops are hands-on, interactive sessions that will arm you with the tools you need to face the challenges you encounter as a small business owner. The workshops will be led by experts in a variety of fields, such as business valuation, contracts, mergers and acquisitions, strategic planning, and much more.
The workshops start on Wednesday, July 12 at 10 AM with Insurance Matters for Small Business Owners, in which Michael Simon of TixSurance will coach attendees in a variety of common insurance concerns. Simon has a long career in the insurance industry and founded TixSurance in 2015.
Simon’s workshop will be followed by Mergers and Acquisitions for Ticket Brokers, led by Alex Michael and Lyle Ayes of LionTree. In this session, Michael and Ayes will cover overarching trends in mergers and acquisitions, potential buyers in ticketing, team and business valuation, and potential opportunities for growth. Michael leads business development at LionTree and previously headed business development at LivingSocial and Madison Square Garden. Ayes is Head of Sports Advisory at LionTree and has advised on several prominent sports transactions.
In the afternoon, Darwin Hopwood of SCORE will present How to Understand Financial Statements and Improve Profitability. The session will walk attendees through the three basic business financial statements: the income statement, the balance sheet, and the cash flow statement. Hopwood is a SCORE mentor with 40 years’ experience in the financial industry and an adjunct professor at UNLV.
On Wednesday, the workshops will wrap up with Legal Concerns for Ticket Brokers, led by David Fritz, partner at Boyarski Fritz, LLP. Fritz will focus on common legal situations and pitfalls that may affect ticket brokers. Fritz is a seasoned entertainment and media veteran with a unique and robust history in a variety of businesses.
On Thursday, July 13, the workshops will kick off at 10 AM with Strategies to Grow and Position Your Business, by Mike Montalbano of the University of Notre Dame. Montalbano will delve into Growth Strategies, which are concerned with increasing the size of your business over time, and Competitive Strategies, such as how to position your business. Montalbano is a seasoned business executive and has also taught at Bentley University.
Thursday’s schedule will continue with a second session of Legal Concerns for Ticket Brokers, followed by Business Valuation and Exit Planning, also presented by Darwin Hopwood of SCORE. This session deals with the three approaches to valuing a business, including cash flow vs. net income, identifying growth rates, and identifying the appropriate discount or cap rate.
The Workshops for Entrepreneurs will conclude Thursday afternoon with a second session of Insurance Matters for Small Business Owners.
Throughout the conference, the workshop presenters will also be present in the Trade Show Hall to answer your questions about their areas of expertise.
