The Italian DJ Giorgio Moroder is proving that it’s never too late for a live show, announcing his first tour throughout Europe at age 78.

While the DJ has performed dozens of shows, he’s never actually been on tour, and during this run, he plans to show a different side of himself as a musician. Moroder will take on the piano, vocoder, and synths while onstage.

“It is something I have always wanted to do,” Moroder told The Guardian. “Fans kept reaching out to me, asking if I would ever do a real tour. Back in the days it was unthinkable for producers to ever leave their studios. That territory was reserved for the singers. Today, DJs and music producers have become the superstars of popular dance music, so the time feels right.”

Moroder will kick-off his first trek in Birmingham, UK on April 1, 2019. From there, he will make stops throughout the UK, Ireland, Belgium, Germany, Hungary, and Italy before wrapping-up in the Netherlands on May 21.

Back in the ’70s, Moroder started his own record label and produced multiple singles for Donna Summer, including “Love To Love You Baby” and “Last Dance.” He also produced a score of songs for artists like David Bowie, Janet Jackson, and Bowie, and was inducted into the Dance Music Hall of Fame in 2004.

After consistently releasing albums since 1969, he took a long hiatus in 1992, but returned in 2015 with Deja Vu. Since the release of his last LP, Moroder scored the soundtrack for the TV show Queen of the South and the video game Tron Run/r. Additionally, he released Hot Stuff Remixes and Club Remixes earlier in 2018.
