Pop Smoke, the rising rapper known for the single “Welcome to the Party,” has been killed at 20-years-old.
According to TMZ, the musician, whose real name is Bashar Barakah Jackson, was shot and killed this morning in a home invasion robbery at his Hollywood Hills home. Law enforcement say that two men wearing masks and hoodies reportedly broke into his home and released multiple shots. They fatally wounded Pop Smoke before fleeing the scene. After the rapper was transported to the hospital, he was pronounced dead. At this time, it’s unclear if the break-in was a robbery or if anyone else was inside the house, police said.
“Welcome to the Party” was the lead single of Pop Smoke’s debut mixtape Meet the Woo, which dropped last July. Earlier this month, he released Meet the Woo Vol. 2, which featured appearances from Quavo and A Boogie wit da Hoodie. He also appeared on the song “Gatti” with Travis Scott. This spring, he was slated to head on tour.
Those within the hip-hop community mourned his death on Twitter.
