ATG Entertainment DE has unveiled plans for a new cultural project in Vienna, Austria.
Partnering with the City of Vienna and Wien Holding, the company will build a state-of-the-art venue in the Prater, a public park located in the Leopoldstadt district of the Austrian capital.
Named Theater im Prater, this project is poised to become the largest privately financed theatre development in Austria in the last 100 years. With a seating capacity of 1,800, the venue is designed to host international musical productions.
Joachim Hilke, Chief Executive for Europe at ATG Entertainment, expressed his enthusiasm for the project, noting, “we are very pleased to be here in Vienna to build a world-class theatre in the Prater.”
“ATG Entertainment wants to host outstanding and spectacular shows for audiences in Vienna and the many musical tourists,” Hilke continued. “I am sure that the Theater im Prater will enhance Vienna’s reputation for musical theatre and will sustainably strengthen this cultural metropolis in the heart of Europe.”
The project aligns with Vienna’s broader goals of enhancing its cultural infrastructure and boosting tourism. City Councillor Peter Hanke praised the initiative, noting its potential to bring substantial economic and cultural benefits to the region.
“This project will improve the cultural and tourist profile of the city,” Hanke remarked. “The expected positive economic results will strengthen Vienna as a location.”
Construction costs for the theatre will be fully covered by ATG Entertainment, with the opening scheduled for late 2027. The venue is expected to generate an estimated annual economic benefit of €157 million (£130 million/$162 million) for the city.
