Beaver Stadium, with a capacity of just over 107,000, is North America’s largest outdoor sports stadium, and the third-largest stadium in the world. Located on the campus of Penn State in University Park, PA, the stadium is home to the storied Penn State Nittany Lions football team, which is part of the Big Ten Conference.

The stadium is named after James A. Beaver, a former governor of Pennsylvania from 1887–91, who was also president of the university’s board of trustees.

Beaver Stadium was built in 1960, and was expanded several times. Its original capacity was only 46,000.

The Nittany Lions football team is wildly popular among students and alumni of the university, and for the 2009 season, student tickets will be paperless. The move allows students to swipe their ID cards to gain entry, and was designed to help crack down on student scalping.
