Bonnie Raitt is a blues and country singer from Burbank, CA, who started performing in blues clubs in college around the Boston area before moving to Philadelphia in the late 1960s. She was discovered in 1970, when a Newsweek reporter saw her act. She signed with Warner Bros. shortly after and produced her first album, which was self-titled, in 1971.
Raitt experienced several ups and downs during her career, including being dropped by Warner Bros. in 1983 and producing a few albums that received lackluster responses. However, in 1989 she won four Grammy awards for her album “Nick of Time,” and over the next decade she put out three more albums and won five more Grammys. In 2000, she was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Today, Raitt continues to tour, most recently embarking on a joint tour with Taj Mahal in the summer of 2009.
