There have been many stories inspired by the tale of a young boy who can never grow old, but Peter and the Starcatcher is among the best stage adaptations ever produced – a vibrant re-imagining of how a nameless boy became Peter Pan, and how a normal Island grew into the Neverland we know and love. This past weekend, the TicketNews team went to see the touring company perform at the Eisenhower Hall Theatre in Westpoint, NY. Based on the popular books co-authored by Dave Barry and Ridley Pearson, Peter and the Starcatcher retains the innocent humor characteristic of the series, preserving the perfect blend of artistic flavors – both the touching and the ridiculous. The stage production takes the story-telling a step farther with its creative use of common props and lighting techniques to play with the audience’s sense of imagination to an awe-inspiring effect. A mere twelve actors give flesh to a full cast of mermaids, pirates, sea-men, and orphaned boys, all the while giving life to a constantly shifting set. Did I mention the show won 5 Tony Awards?
Peter And the Starcatcher is currently touring across the United States, with stops in cities such as Greenvale, NY and Galveston, TX for all of a day.
