The company was founded by former Ticketmaster and Match.com executive Joe Cohen, and in 2009 it signed exclusive ticketing deals with MTV UK and the music festival Gaymers Camden Crawl, and in 2008 the company agreed to buy the entire share capital of Skelper B.V., a Netherlands-based ticket exchange service.
Seatwave joins The Echo Nest’s Rosetta Stone platform
The Echo Nest, a music intelligence application platform and Seatwave, a London-based online ticket marketplace, recently announced a partnership that will allow thousands of application developers to integrate ticketing buying features within their applications while also earning a portion of revenue from tickets sold via their apps.
Seatwave, Europe’s top online fan-to-fan ticket exchange for live events, debuted their new ticketing and event application programming interface (API) at Music Hack Day in San Francisco on Feb. 11–12. The API became part of The Echo Nest’s Rosetta Stone platform, along with a host of other APIs that help developers integrate music-related features within their apps.
Red Hot Chili Peppers turn to Seatwave to sell paperless tickets on European tour
Veteran rockers Red Hot Chili Peppers, whose upcoming European tour will only use restrictive paperless tickets, are apparently finding it difficult to move tickets and have turned to secondary ticket marketplace Seatwave to help with sales, despite claiming they want to keep tickets out of the secondary market.
According to the company, more than 5,700 tickets for the tour are listed for sale on its site, or approximately 200 for each of the 27 shows in 11 countries for which it lists tickets.

Accel Partners is joined by existing investors Fidelity Ventures, Atlas Venture, Mangrove Capital Partners and Adinvest. Sonali De Rycker, who helped to found the company while at Atlas Venture, returns to the Seatwave board as part of Accel’s investment.
Over the past three years, Seatwave has pioneered the European ticket exchange category and established itself as a trusted consumer brand in the live entertainment space.
