Broadway Ticket Sales Up 10% Compared to This Time Last Season

Broadway ticket sales this week were on the low end of the seesaw at $18,282,467, down slightly compared to the previous week’s report of $18,416,615, a decrease of $134,148.

Looking at the current gross ticket sales for the season of $211,463,246 however, this compares very favorably to last season’s sales at this point in time of $191,178,397, a little over a 10% increase. Downright healthy.

The strongest showing of ticket sales on Broadway this past week were:
• Wicked $1,492,271 at 100% capacity
• The Lion King $1,320,574 at 100$ capacity
• Mary Poppins $1,217,197 at 100%
• Jersey Boys $1,207,628 at 100%
• The Color Purple $1,004,966 at 95% capacity.
• Legally Blonde continues to occupy 6th place with $949,783 at just over 80% of seats sold. . .

Not living up to expectations when looking at potential income were:
• Xanadu, $357,527
• The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee, $261,987
• Deuce, $168,945
• The Year of Magical Thinking, $162,264
• Old Acquaintance, $158,505
• The Drowsy Chaperone, $551,686

Of the four plays on Broadway, only Frost/Nixon continues to live up to expectations when looking at gross receipts: $566,563 this past week with close to 92% attendance.

OPENINGS:
Grease prepares to open this coming Sunday, August 19. If it is anything like the first night of previews, it should be a lot of fun for both attendees and cast.

CLOSING:
Deuce is scheduled to close Sunday, August 19th.

UPCOMING:
Pygmalion, scheduled to open to previews Sept. 14th with Opening Night Oct. 18th.
