Broadway Ticket Sales Report Week Ending October 14, 2007
By Alfred Branch, Jr.
Three Broadway heavyweights continued to dominate the weekly rankings for ticket sales for the period ending Oct. 14, according to the League of American Theatres and Producers.
Wicked, generating $1.43 million in ticket sales, Jersey Boys at $1.27 million, and The Lion King at $1.15 million, were the three highest grossing shows with all three exceeding 95 percent attendance.
Mauritius, which opened last week, experienced the largest increase in attendance with an 18.8 percent jump, followed by The Drowsy Chaperone at 15.4 percent and The Phantom of the Opera at 14.6 percent.
Yet, the weekly box office tallies could be a moot point after this week, and possibly beyond, if the stagehands’ union decides to go on strike. The union is slated to take a strike vote on Saturday, Oct. 20.
