It has been a long ride indeed for The Eagles, as ticket sales for their Long Road Out of Eden Tour earned the group fifth place on TicketNews’ exclusive Top Events chart for the week of April 14 – April 20, 2008. With a power score of 2.05, The Eagles climbed two positions from their seventh place finish last week. Known for hits like “Best of My Love,” “Desperado,” and “Hotel California,” The Eagles proved they’ve still got what it takes after nearly forty years together by also clinching the title of Top Concert Event this week.
Other top events this week included Wicked in first place on the Top Events, Top Theater, and Top Broadway charts. The musical was followed on the top events chart by the New York Yankees in second with a score of 3.67 and the Boston Red Sox in third with a 3.60 power score. Kanye West flew up the rankings this week, as the popularity of the hip-hop star’s Glow in the Dark Tour sent him from seventeenth place in the top events last week to seventh place this week with a power score of 1.56. The Boston Bruins also made a respectable first appearance in eighth place this week, as ticket sales from their Eastern Conference quarterfinal series against the Montreal Canadiens (which now stands tied at three games apiece) earned the Bruins a 1.52 power score this week.
In theater news, “Wicked” remains perched at the top of both the Top Theater Events and Top Broadway Events lists. On the top theater chart, “Wicked” accounted for well over one-third of all ticket sales with a power score of 36.16. The musical’s next closest competitor, Jersey Boys, could hardly compete with a power score of just 17.24. South Pacific trailed behind with a mere 8.23 power score. On Broadway, “Wicked” earned a slightly less disproportionate amount of sales, with a power score of 34.17. “Jersey Boys” came in with a 16.89 power score, followed by “South Pacific” with a respectable 13.14.
The Top Sports Events chart experienced a major change in lineup this week, as the NFL schedule was released on April 16, the NBA and NHL moved into the playoffs, and the MLB season wore on. The New York Yankees surpassed the Boston Red Sox to claim the first place position, as they also rose above the Sox 15 to 9 during their April 16 game. The Yankees also faced the Baltimore Orioles in Maryland this past weekend, to make way for Pope Benedict XVI’s mass at Yankee Stadium. The Boston Bruins skated up to third place, and the Olypmics Opening Ceremony ranked fourth on the list.
Lastly, on the Top Las Vegas Events list, Cher blew away her competition with a power score of 42.47. Though the showgirl continues to go on, Bette Midler ranked second with a score of 18.21, and Elton John played his red piano up from fifth to third place this week to earn a power score of 12.21. Lesser entities in this galaxy of stars included Cirque du Soleil – “O” in fourth place with a power score of 9.04 and Cirque du Soleil – The Beatles: LOVE with a 3.56 power score.
TicketNews Exclusive Rankings and Power Scores are based on ticket sales from the TicketNetwork Exchange™, the world’s largest secondary market exchange. A Power Score illustrates a given event’s category-specific significance. Two factors are used to calculate a power score: total ticket sales from the given event and total ticket sales within the category. As such, power scores should only be used to compare events within a particular category.
