Billy Powell, one of the original members and keyboard player for Lynyrd Skynyrd, underwent an emergency partial revision hip replacement surgery in Jacksonville, FL last week. While Powell will miss some time, the band will continue on its current tour.

“Billy’s hip had continued to give him dislocation problems, and it was determined that a revision was the only possible solution,” Lynyrd Skynyrd manager Ross Schilling of Vector Management said in a statement.

Skynyrd has been on tour with Hank Williams, Jr. that lasts through June. Powell is expected to re-join Skynyrd on tour sometime in July while the band tours with an interim keyboardist. He will be recovering over the next three to six weeks and will have to wear a hip brace for the next three months. The Southern rockers will go solo in July and then tour with Kid Rock August 8-31.
