The economic climate has claimed its first music festival victim forcing the cancellation of the Musink Tattoo & Music Festival.

The inaugural touring festival, to have been a one-of-a-kind event, combining the greatest tattoo artists in the world with world-class musical entertainment in the form of a massive traveling festival, was set to run January 30 through March 15, 2009. Social Distortion and Motörhead had already been named as headliners, and renowned tattoo artists from around the world were scheduled to appear, including Musink co-producer Kat Von D.

“I’m sad that this year’s festival will not go on as planned, but I’d rather the fans not be disappointed, as there were key elements that did not come together as originally designed,” Von D said in a statement.

In addition to Von D, the festival was being produced by Hootenanny Festival producer Bill Hardie, Rockstar Energy Drink Mayhem Festival and Taste of Chaos co-producer John Reese, and Creative Artists Agency (CAA) agent Darryl Eaton.
