TicketNews this morning released its exclusive Weekly Top Events rankings for the week ending December 14, and the title of top overall event no longer belongs to Britney Spears but to Wicked (power score 7.55). Spears ranks at number three, power score 4.07, ahead of Elton John & Billy Joel, who leaped from their number twelve position in last week’s rankings to number four (3.25). The Eagles also made a big jump in the Top Combined Events rankings, from number nineteen to number seven, power score 2.07. AC/DC slipped from number five to number ten; they have a new power score of 1.48.

The BCS National Championship Game ranks number two overall and number one in the Top Sport Events rankings with a 11.45 power score. That’s a huge lead over number-two Cotton Bowl, whose power score is 4.00. The Dallas Cowboys reclaim a top spot in the rankings: they’re in at number three, power score 3.45. Tickets sales for the Sugar Bowl propelled that event to number four (2.97), ahead of basketball teams Boston Celtics (number five, 2.91) and Los Angeles Lakers (number six, 2.76). Events and teams new to the sports rankings round out the top ten: the Meineke Car Care Bowl (number seven, 2.32); Carolina Panthers (number eight, 2.25); Boston Bruins (number nine, 1.82); and the Capital One Bowl (number ten, 1.53).

Though Spears slipped in the overall rankings, she still holds on to number one in the Top Concert Events rankings with an 11.95 power score. Fleetwood Mac breaks into the concert top ten at number eight (3.79). New this week in the top concert rankings are Il Divo (number nine, 2.37) and Kenny Chesney (number ten, 2.30).

Wicked is still the top show in the Broadway and Theatre rankings. In the theatre top ten, Jersey Boys (number two, 9.93) has an edge over Lion King (number three, 5.79). Phantom of the Opera tickets are still selling strong; the show ranks at number five, power score 4.69. The Nutcracker is in at number seven with a 3.99 power score.

TicketNews Exclusive Rankings and Power Scores are based on ticket sales from the TicketNetwork Exchange™, the world’s largest secondary market exchange. A Power Score illustrates a given event’s category-specific significance. Two factors are used to calculate a power score: total ticket sales from the given event and total ticket sales within the category. As such, power scores should only be used to compare events within a particular category.
