According to TicketNews’ exclusive venues rankings for the week ending Saturday, January 3, Dolphin Stadium holds the number one spot for the second week in a row. Bolstered by sales for both the January 4 AFC Wild Card game between the Miami Dolphins and the Baltimore Ravens and the January 8 BCS National Championship Bowl pitting the Florida Gators against the Oklahoma Sooners, the stadium earns an impressive 6.71 power score this week.

Moving up four from last week to the number two position is the Staples Center in Los Angeles, CA. The home of Los Angeles Lakers basketball is also scheduled to host two dates on Britney Spears popular spring tour. The Staples Center power scores a 3.30 this week. The home field of the San Diego Chargers, Qualcomm Stadium, hits at number three this week with a power score of 3.10. Benefiting from strong ticket sales for the Chargers’ January 3 AFC Wild Card match up with the Indianapolis Colts, in the coming weeks the stadium will also host the Monster Jam Trucks tour and AMA Supercross, two events that made the top ten in this week’s TicketNews Top Sports Events rankings. Next on our venues list is the Gershwin Theatre, in at number four this week with a power score of 2.94. Wicked, its long-running, high-grossing musical, keeps this venue a solid top five contender week after week.

Holding steady this week in the number five position is Madison Square Garden (MSG). Home to the ever popular New York Knicks, MSG also recently hosted “Wintuk”, a top-selling Cirque Du Soleil production, and will see a March performance by Fleetwood Mac on the band’s Unleashed tour. MSG power scores a 2.62 this week. In at number six is a newcomer, the Metrodome in Minneapolis, MN. Debuting with a power score of 2.60, the Metrodome hosted the January 4 NFC Wild Card Playoff game between its Minnesota Vikings and Philadelphia Eagles, and it also will have a spot on the popular Monster Jam Trucks tour in January.

TD Banknorth Garden in Boston just keeps moving downward, dropping three more slots this week to number seven. The Garden remains in the top ten due to its performance roster of top-selling artists, including March dates on both the Britney Spears and Fleetwood Mac tours. The Garden has a power score of 2.10 this week. Next, the University of Phoenix Stadium comes in at number eight. Home to the January 5 Fiesta Bowl between the Ohio State Buckeyes and Texas Longhorns, the stadium also benefited from brisk sales for the January 3 NFC Wild Card game between its Arizona Cardinals and Atlanta Falcons, another game making the TicketNews Top Sports Events list this week. The stadium power scores a 1.98 this week.

The Bank of America Stadium arrives on the list in the number nine position. With a power score of 1.96, the stadium will host the January 10 NFC Divisional Playoff game between the Carolina Panthers and the Arizona Cardinals. Rounding out the top ten this week is the Ford Center for the Performing Arts in Chicago, Ill. Down two to number ten this week and power scoring a 1.55, the Ford Center will be host to a number of Broadway-style productions in the coming months, including “Wicked”, Rent and Legally Blonde.

TicketNews Exclusive Rankings and Power Scores are based on ticket sales for venues from the TicketNetwork Exchange™, the world’s largest secondary market exchange. A Power Score illustrates a given venue’s category-specific significance. Two factors are used to calculate a power score: total ticket sales for a venue, and total ticket sales within the category. As such, power scores should only be used to compare venues within a particular category.
