Rising art-rock group Bloc Party will be getting up-close and personal with fans across North America this spring. The band has announced dates for a 17-city tour promoting last year’s record “Intimacy.”
The spring 2009 outing will pick up with a March 13-14 two-night stand at Kool Haus in Toronto, ON, and conclude May 3 at Burton Cummings Theatre in Winnipeg, MB. Bloc Party will make only eight forays into the States during the predominately Canadian trek, including a March 19 concert at the new House of Blues in Boston, MA, a pair of shows on March 24-25 at Terminal 5 in New York, NY, and a March 31 set at The Pageant in St. Louis, MO.
The four-man band is busy promoting their third full-length studio album, “Intimacy,” which hit stores in October 2008. Following its debut, the record peaked at No. 18 on the Billboard 200, a slightly lower showing than 2007’s “A Weekend in the City,” which peaked at No. 12 on the main chart and hit No. 1 on the Top Independent Albums chart.
The band made a strong debut in 2005 with the critically acclaimed “Silent Alarm,” an album that broke onto the charts in more than 10 countries around the world.
Bloc Party was last in the States for a brief mid-December tour of the West Coast. The indie rock darlings will precede the spring North American run with a string of European tour dates, beginning with a January 25-26 set at the Academy in Glasgow, Scotland.
