Much like recent European ticket sales, the North American response to on-sales for U2 tickets has been overwhelming and records continue to shatter.

Tickets for U2’s much anticipated North American tour leg went on sale March 30, and fans did not disappoint. With sales of more than 82,000 tickets sold in metropolitan New York, plus another 72,000 in Boston and 65,000 in Chicago, U2‘s 360° Tour set the largest single-day attendance record in each city with second shows quickly added.

The North American tour opener in Chicago on September 12 at Soldier Field was an instant sell-out. Due to overwhelming demand, a second and final performance for September 13 was added. In Toronto, response to U2 was so strong that a second show was announced prior to it going on sale. Both concerts, September 16 & 17 at Rogers Centre are sold out.

Following the September 20 sell out at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, MA, a second concert was added for September 21. And after selling out its September 24 show at Giants Stadium in East Rutherford, NJ, another concert on September 25 was added.

New cities confirmed on U2’s North American tour includes: Washington, DC (September 29) at FedEx Field; Charlottesville, VA (October 1) at Scott Stadium; Atlanta, GA (October 6) at Georgia Dome; Tampa, FL (October 9) at Raymond James Stadium; Los Angeles, CA (October 25) at the Rose Bowl; and Vancouver (October 28) at BC Place Stadium.

Tickets in Charlottesville will go on sale April 3. Tickets for all additional performances, including the second and final performances in Chicago, Boston and New York will go on sale on April 6.

Full details of all dates and on-sale information as well as a virtual model of the unique production and seating positions can be found on a dedicated microsite at U2.com. Subscribers to U2’s official Web site will have an opportunity to purchase tickets in advance of the public on sale date.

Overseas, tickets continue at a brisk pace. A third and final show was added at Dublin’s Croke Park where the city’s native sons will now perform July 24-25 and 27. Sales in Zagreb, CRO, broke all records in that country and last week U2’s tour opener in Barcelona, SPA, sold out in 54 minutes becoming the fastest ever sold out show in the history of pop music in Spain.
