Broadway hit another high note in this post-Tony Award week with ticket sales of $22,160,990, up from the previous period ending June 7 of $19,722,192. Looking at the three-week cumulative for this new season, it’s already up 2.5 percent over the previous season: $61,510,369 compared to $60,038,563.

The million-dollar winners this past week were six productions ranked in this order: Wicked at the Gershwin, Billy Elliot at the Imperial, West Side Story at the Palace, The Lion King at the Minskoff, Jersey Boys at the August Wilson and Hair at the Al Hirschfeld.

Posting the largest gains dollar-wise were Shrek at the Broadway with an increase of $182,798 and Mary Poppins at the New Amsterdam with an increase of $158,987. “Shrek” was no doubt boosted by its brief appearance in its entertainment bit at the Tony Awards. 9 to 5 playing at the Marquis saw a nice increase of more than $75,000 as well, also benefiting from its exposure at the Tony Awards.

Looking at plays this past week, the Tony Award-winner for ‘Best Play’, God of Carnage at the Jacobs continued its lead. It was followed closely by “Exit the King” at the Barrymore and Blithe Spirit at the Shubert. Geoffrey Rush in “Exit the King” won a Tony as the ‘Best Performance by a Leading Actor in a Play’ and Angela Lansbury in “Blithe Spirit” won a Tony for the ‘Best Performance by a Featured Actress in a Play’.

Twelve productions posted 95 percent or better attendance. The largest increases over the previous week were enjoyed by two productions that closed this past Sunday: the musical, “Guys and Dolls” up 28 percent and “Reasons To Be Pretty” up 27 percent. Also closing their doors this past Sunday were two other Tony winners, “Exit the King” and “Joe Turner’s Come and Gone.”
