“TDF’s DOWNTOWN BROOKLYN TKTS BOOTH IS ONE YEAR OLD ON FRIDAY, JULY 10”
New York (Theatre Development Fund) July 9, 2009 – Theatre Development Fund (TDF)’s Downtown Brooklyn TKTS Discount Ticket Booth at 1 MetroTech Center turns one year old tomorrow, Friday, July 10. For the past year, this satellite TKTS Booth has offered same-day evening and next-day matinee discount tickets to dozens of Broadway, Off Broadway, music, dance and Brooklyn performing arts events at discounted prices to Brooklyn residents and visitors.
“We’re thrilled to be serving Brooklyn residents, MetroTech area employees and visitors with the Brooklyn TKTS Booth,” said TDF’s executive director, Victoria Bailey. “This first year has been a challenge – we opened just before the economic slump began and public awareness of the booth has built more slowly than we expected. Sales during the winter months were slow, but as the weather has warmed up and word-of-mouth continues, we have seen an encouraging steady improvement in business. Increased word of mouth has been supported by the marketing efforts of the MetroTech BID, TDF’s grass roots efforts, and support from local businesses, especially the Brooklyn Marriott. We are committed to serving Brooklyn – as more and more people discover they can purchase discount tickets easily and without a wait, business will get stronger and stronger.”
HOURS & LOCATION INFO: TKTS Downtown Brooklyn is located on the ground floor of 1 MetroTech Center at the corner of Jay Street and Myrtle Avenue Promenade. Hours of operation are: Tuesday – Saturday from 11am to 6pm. TKTS sells tickets to same-day evening performances and next-day matinee performances (that is, matinee performances are sold the day before the performance) at discounts of up to 50% off full price. TKTS Downtown Brooklyn accepts credit cards, cash and travelers checks. It is located right outside of the Jay Street-Borough Hall station of the A, C and F trains and near the Court Street – Borough Hall station of the M, R, 2, 3, 4, 5 trains and the Lawrence Street station of the M, and R trains.
TKTS is a project of Theatre Development Fund (TDF), a not-for-profit service organization for the performing arts. TDF has two other TKTS Discount Booths: a new Times Square TKTS Booth under the red glass steps in the newly revitalized Duffy Square; and the Lower Manhattan TKTS Booth is located at South Street Seaport at the corner of Front and John Streets. Since TKTS first opened for business over 36 years ago on June 25, 1973, over 51 million tickets have been sold at discount prices to millions New Yorkers and visitors who, without TKTS may not have been able to attend live performances. Those admissions represent nearly $1.6 billion in revenue returned to thousands of productions.
