Green Day tour ready to ‘Breakdown’ with summer 2010 concerts
Green Day won’t restrict its summer amphitheater tour to European sheds. The iconic punk band recently announced that the upcoming season’s itinerary features at least a month of dates in North American markets, supported by fellow alt-rockers AFI.
The summer trek will hit amphitheaters across the United States and Canada at summer’s end, running from August 3 at Susquehanna Bank Center in Camden, NJ, through September 2 at Cricket Wireless Amphitheatre in Chula Vista, CA.
Green Day’s current 14-date itinerary will complete an East Coast circuit before heading West. Stops along the way include August 11 at Jiffy Lube Live in Bristow, VA; August 16 at Comcast Center in Mansfield, MA; and August 30 at Cricket Wireless Pavilion in Phoenix, AZ.
At this point, only one stop is inked for Canadian audiences. That gig lands on August 18 at the Molson Canadian Amphitheatre in Toronto, ON.
The first wave of tickets will be available to the public within the next week, with LiveNation.com showing scattered onsales opening from the end of March through early April.
Specific ticket price ranges have not been revealed yet, but a tour press release did note that Green Day would be using “all-inclusive pricing” throughout the upcoming tour and “no additional fees of any kind” would be added to those prices. Select venues will offer a limited number of $20 lawn seats for the summer venture.
Tour and ticket details will be updated on Green Day’s official Web site as they become available.
The tour announcement closely follows recent media reports that the punk rockers have begun work on new material. The trio’s previous release “21st Century Breakdown” dropped less than a year ago in May 2009, continuing the rock opera format first explored by the band in 2004’s “American Idiot.”
While touring the nation, Green Day will also have some additional stage presence of a different kind. The band is launching an open-ended run of the musical version of “American Idiot” on Broadway, where it officially opens on April 20 after four weeks of previews at St. James Theatre.
Green Day launched its on-the-road promotion for “21st Century Breakdown” last year with an expansive 38-city tour of North America, followed by an autumn-long leg that passed through the UK and mainland Europe.
