Box office returns got back on track this past week with ticket sales reporting $18,553,510. Ticket sales of the previous reporting period ending March 6 were $15,042,066, an improvement of $3,511,444. The same week last season reported $18,747,373. Comparing the overall numbers for this season to the last, ticket sales are 2.6 percent ahead.
Three of the 29 current productions reported box office receipts in excess of $1 million including “Wicked” at the Gershwin, leading again at $1,545,232, “The Lion King” at the Minskoff, $1,498,910, followed by “Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark” at the Foxwoods, at $1,360,683.
Attendance reported for the week overall was 84.11 percent, with nine shows reporting 95 percent or better. The four productions with the highest attendance numbers were the musical “The Book of Mormon” at 101.15 percent, “Wicked” reporting 100 percent, followed by the new play “Kathy Griffin Wants a Tony” 98.9 percent and the revival of the musical “Anything Goes” at the Stephen Sondheim at 98.44 percent. “La Cage aux Folles” at the Longacre reported the lowest percentage of capacity for the second week in a row at 53.17 percent.
“Kathy Griffin Wants a Tony,” which ends its limited run March 19, ranked highest in achieving its Gross Gross Potential at 105.09 percent in its first week. Reporting the lowest figure was “American Idiot” at the Nederlander, 34.04 percent.
Again this week, six shows posted tickets with face values at or exceeding $300, including “Jersey Boys” at $350 while the best bargain-priced average ticket was $56.93 for the new play “Arcadia” at the Ethel Barrymore.

- – “Ghetto Klown” is in previews at the Lyceum and opens March 22.
- – “The Book of Mormon” is in previews at the Eugene O’Neill and opens March 24.
- – “Rock of Ages” remains on hiatus and will reopen March 24 at the Helen Hayes.
- – “How to Succeed in Business without Really Trying” is in previews at the Hirschfeld and opens March 27.
- – “Bengal Tiger at the Baghdad Zoo” is in previews at the Rodgers and opens March 31.
- – “Anything Goes” is in previews at the Sondheim and opens April 7.
- – “Catch Me if You Can” is in previews at the Neil Simon and opens April 10.
