As residents along the U.S. East Coast brace for the impact of Hurricane Irene, more venues and artists are amending weekend performance schedules.
The storm will leave more than damaged property and land in its wake. Dozens of concerts and festivals have already been postponed, rescheduled or cancelled due to the imminent weather in Northeast coastal regions.
One of the earliest artists to announce scheduling changes was Kenny Chesney. Earlier this week, the country singer announced that he had rescheduled an August 28 concert to August 26 in light of the approaching storm.
The Dave Matthews Band Caravan plays tonight, August 26, on Governor’s Island in New York, NY, as previously scheduled. However, the event’s second and third nights (August 27 and 28) have been postponed.
Tickets to the August 27-28 Caravan dates will be honored when the events are rescheduled. But fans with tickets to those shows have also been invited to attend tonight’s festivities, according to an announcement on DMB’s official Web site.
Hurricane Irene is also raining on the weekend concert plans of Jimmy Buffett. The “Margaritaville” singer has rescheduled an August 27 concert at Jiffy Lube Live in Bristow, VA, until September 1. Tickets to the Saturday concert will be honored on the new Thursday night date, according to updates on Buffett’s Web site.
The below list of cancellations and postponements is not comprehensive. Additional events may issue announcements or change details as the weekend progresses.
Individuals holding tickets to weekend events in areas impacted by Hurricane Irene are urged to contact the event venues or the original point of purchase for their tickets in order to receive the most up-to-date information.
