Broadway ticket sales dropped $1 million to $23.3 million for the week ending December 25, a decrease of 4.1 percent from the previous week’s tally of $24.3 million.

Eight shows grossed at least $1 million in sales for the week, and like the previous week two productions exceeded $2 million. “Wicked” generated $2.1 million in sales, while “The Lion King” grossed $2 million; last week “The Lion King” edged out “Wicked” for the top spot.

Among the other shows that topped the $1 million mark for the week were “Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark” ($1.8 million); “Hugh Jackman, Back on Broadway” ($1.4 million); “The Book of Mormon” ($1.2 million); and “How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying” ($1.1 million).

Additionally, two more shows crashed the $1 million ceiling for the week. “The Phantom of the Opera” saw ticket sales increase more than 35 percent from the previous week to just over $1 million, and “War Horse,” which has been playing in front of 100 percent capacity audiences, also reached $1 million in sales, an increase of 1.7 percent over the previous week. The play could continue to see strong sales due to the recent release of the critically acclaimed, Steven Spielberg-directed film version.

Of all the shows reaching the $1 million mark, only two productions had a decrease in sales, “How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying” which was down $16,000 from last week, and “Hugh Jackman, Back on Broadway,” which was down $140,000 compared to last week.

The production that suffered the largest loss for the week was critically panned “On a Clear Day You Can See Forever.” Despite the star power of lead actor Harry Connick Jr., the show saw sales plummet by more than 50 percent to just over $351,000, compared to the previous week.
