Broadway ticket sales were up by four percent last week, marking the first time this year that sales increased for the Great White Way.

Through the week ending February 5, gross ticket sales reached $15.6 million, which was an increase of $617,097 from the week ending January 29. Of the 23 productions, sales fell for 13 of the shows, a huge improvement over the previous week in which 21 of the productions experienced a decrease in sales.

Venus in Fur” made its move from the Samuel J. Friedman Theater to the Lyceum Theatre, earning $346,117 in ticket sales and having an attendance of 4,527 or 79 percent of capacity.

Stick Fly” producers announced last week that the production will close on February 26 after 92 performances and 24 preview performances. Last week the show fell 17.6 percent ($196,337) and was at just 45 percent of attendance capacity.

On the flipside, “Porgy and Bess” producers announced they are pleased with overall ticket sales and will extend the performance schedule from July 8 to September 30. Last week ‘s sales for the show were down 9.6 percent ($818,346) with attendance at 80 percent of capacity.

How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying,” had a change in luck as sales climbed 14.3 percent, earning $656,165 whereas in the week through January 29 the production had the biggest loss of nearly 16 percent ($573,887).

Sister Act” and “Wit” were the only two productions to see an increase in sales in the previous week, but were unable to continue their upward momentum. “Sister Act” fell 11.7 percent ($426.152) and “Wit ” slipped 4.9 percent ($232,701).

The Road to Mecca” continued its descent, falling 12 percent ($181,398) over the previous week. “War Horse” which saw a 10 percent ($860,311) decrease during the previous week, slipped another 1.6 percent ($846,659) last week.

Several fan favorites significantly increased their sales last week with “Godspell” ($279,878) and “Wicked” ($1.5 million) having an 11.8 percent increase, “Mary Poppins” increasing by 11.1 percent ($667,272) and “The Lion King” sales increasing by 10 percent ($1.3 million).
