Country music star Carrie Underwood has come a long way since winning season four of American Idol back in 2005. She has gone on to sell more than 14 million albums worldwide, winning five Grammy Awards, and a handful of CMAs and ACMs, while also becoming a member of the Grand Ole Opry — Carrie Underwood has it all. This fall, Underwood will be ready to begin her latest tour, The Blown Away Tour, named for her latest album which was released on May 1.
Early reports from Billboard.biz of the album projected the album would track to sell between 275,000 and 300,000 copies in its debut week. According to Nielsen SoundScan, Blown Away came up short on those early predictions — however, with more than 267,000 albums sold it debuted atop Billboard‘s Top Country Albums chart and the all-genre Billboard 200.
Gary Overton, the chairman and CEO of Sony Music Nashville, said of the whole album in a statement to USA Today, “several radio programmers who have heard the album believe that there are other songs that will be hits at country and pop radio.”
Carrie Underwood’s most recent singles from this album include “Good Girl” and “Blown Away.” “Good Girl” has recently reached the top 10 of USA Today‘s country music airplay chart in just eight weeks and has also crossed over to the Hot AC, or adult contemporary, format,” as stated in USA Today.
The Blown Away Tour in the United States will kick off in Manchester, NH on September 14 at the Verizon Wireless Arena. Underwood will then tour across the country in cities such as Seattle, WA; Fargo, ND; and most importantly Nashville, TN; home of the Grand Ole Opry. Other tour locations include the Webster Bank Arena in Bridgeport, CT on September 15, the STAPLES Center in Los Angeles, CA on October 16, and in the Prudential Center in Newark, NJ on December 1, as listed on Underwood’s official website.
In addition, Underwood will also be performing overseas in Australia and at London’s Royal Albert Hall in June. Pollstar reported tickets for her show in London on June 21 sold out in 90 minutes.
Opening for Underwood is Hunter Hayes, a 20-year-old singer and guitarist. Hayes released his self-titled debut album in 2011. Also in 2011, Hayes toured with Taylor Swift and sang at the Grand Ole Opry.
Tickets for select dates of Carrie Underwood’s The Blown Away Tour went on sale Friday, May 11, while 17 other dates are set to go on sale this Friday, May 18. USA Today states that for each ticket sold for her North American tour, Carrie will donate a dollar in support of the Red Cross disaster relief.
