The second month of 2018 welcomed sales from sports, theatre, and musical performances – but was undeniably dominated by Super Bowl LII. It’s hard to be surprised by this news; the biggest sporting event across the country has over 100 million TV viewers. Getting up-close to the action however, seems to be hard to come by with tickets priced at more than $4,000, yet fans still scored seats, boosting sales to another level.
Elton John was nearly as dominant as the big game, scoring a whopping 20 of the Top 40 placements with upcoming shows, which makes sense given his recent announcement that he would be retiring from touring (after a three year run across the globe). Pearl Jam and Bruno Mars & Cardi B also found spots on the list. The rock heroes Pearl Jam are nearly sold-out on all dates through September of this year, after releasing a live album late last year.
In terms of sports, Canelo Alvarez-Gennady Golovkin II, Monster Jam, NASCAR’s Daytona 500, WWE’s WrestleMania and the International Friendly were the only three sporting events to make an appearance on the month’s best-selling events list. With the abundance of monster truck shows, it’s no surprise the truck tour made the list, as well as NASCAR’s annual event and start of the season. Additionally, WrestleMania’s sales are at a high due to the 34th annual event set to take place on April 8 in New Orleans, Louisiana.
