George Clinton and Parliament Funkadelic will have to go on without their funk frontman, as the veteran vocalist shared news of his retirement from touring.

Next May 2019 will mark the end of touring for Clinton, Billboard reports. Clinton, who will turn 77-years-old this July, said in a statement that “this has been coming a long time.” Recently, the singer underwent pacemaker surgery, but he said that’s not the reason for his decision to stop touring.

“Anyone who has been to the shows over the past couple of years has noticed that I’ve been out front less and less,” Clinton said.

Fans were shocked earlier this year when the band dropped their first single in 38 years, “I’m Gon Make U Sick O’Me.” Along with the new track is a summer tour, which kicked off this past weekend in New York City. The group will cross the country, making stops along the way in the UK, Iceland, and a handful of other countries. Arrington, Virginia’s Lock’n Festival will close out the tour on August 24.

Clinton has time to make his final impact over the next year. Their catalog includes classic tracks like “Tear the Roof Off the Sucker (Give Up The Funk),” “One Nation Under a Groove,” and the 1977 hit tune, “Flash Light.”

“Truth be told,” Clinton said, “it’s never really been about me. It’s always been about the music and the band. That’s the real P-Funk legacy. They’ll still be funkin’ long after I stop.”
