Little Steven and the Disciples of Soul are on tour and celebrating teachers along the way with The Rock and Roll Forever Foundation – who will offer free tickets to the show for teachers who attend a pre-show workshop.

This workshop, dubbed TeachRock, shows teachers how to use music to help students learn throughout different subjects, with innovative lesson plans. TeachRock says that their program has “engaging and meaningful material for every classroom,” which they will share with teachers free of charge.

Before each concert on tour, The Rock and Roll Forever Foundation will present the curriculum to teachers. There are a limited number of tickets for each show, but teachers that sign up for the workshop event will receive free tickets to the show. Teachers can sign up for a workshop at a show near them here.

Steven Van Zandt, who goes by Little Steven onstage, wants kids to be interested in learning about music in the 20th century. He told the Tampa Bay Times that this workshop, which he will attend, is celebrating teachers and honoring them, “giving them some of the respect that they deserve.”

“We’re showing solidarity with all of the striking teachers around the country right now,” he said. “They’re the most underappreciated and undervalued and underpaid working class in our country.”

Little Steven, who was a member of Springsteen’s E Street band for the last 50 years, has also founded Little Stevie’s Underground Garage, a radio show that spotlights garage rock from the ’60s up until today. His work in the industry has shaped him into the music expert he is today, and he wants kids to be able to use music to help them learn in school.

He explained that music is the barrier between students and teachers, since music is the common ground that kids are interested in.

“Every kid’s into music,” he said. “It’s the only art form that was half created by blacks, half created by whites, rock ‘n’ roll. Big contribution by women, big contribution by Hispanics, Latinos. It’s a wonderful common ground to have a discussion about.”

Currently, Little Steven is on tour and will make his next stop tomorrow night in Nashville, Tennessee. Teacher tickets are still available online for the show. He will be touring throughout the summer, wrapping up on July 27 in London, England. Check out the full list of tour dates below.
